Sinquefield Cup 2026: Ten Elite Grandmasters Converge in St. Louis for Grand Chess Tour Finale

The 2026 Sinquefield Cup, the flagship classical event of the Grand Chess Tour, begins in St. Louis on August 10 and runs through August 19, bringing together ten of the world’s strongest grandmasters for the final regular-stage tournament of the 2026 GCT calendar. The 2777-rated challenger arrives as both the reigning FIDE World Cup champion and the 2026 Candidates Tournament winner, making him one of the form players in the world. Germany’s Vincent Keymer, seeded third at 2767, has enjoyed a standout 2026 season highlighted by his victory at the Super Chess Classic Romania earlier in the year, and he too sits near the summit of the overall GCT race.

The Defending Champion Returns

Wesley So, a former Sinquefield Cup titleholder, is back in the field to defend his 2025 crown. So claimed last year’s edition after a dramatic three-way tie on 5.5/9, eventually edging out Praggnanandhaa and Caruana in a three-player blitz playoff.
