FIDE Assembles First Administrative Team Under New Organisational Structure
GENEVA — The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has begun assembling the team responsible for its daily operations following the announcement of a new organisational structure on 26 October 2026. The administration will be headed by Secretary General Alina Dvoretskaya, whose team will execute FIDE’s decisions and coordinate the ongoing work of various departments.
Four Key Appointments Announced
The first stage of team formation covers four key areas, each led by a professional with relevant experience in chess or legal administration.
- Marat Umutpayev – Legal: An international lawyer from Kazakhstan specialising in cross-border legal matters, Umutpayev will provide legal support for FIDE’s activities and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Nadezhda Kravchuk – External Relations and Communications: Kravchuk has held several roles within FIDE, taking increasing responsibility over time. Her appointment illustrates the opportunities for professional growth that the new structure aims to encourage.
- Anton Zhuravlev – Events: With many years of experience organising major international chess competitions, Zhuravlev will head the Events department, responsible for planning events and coordinating with tournament organisers.
- Pavel Tregubov – Sports: A Grandmaster and former European Champion, Tregubov brings experience in international chess administration. He will oversee sporting matters, including competition regulations and cooperation with relevant FIDE bodies.
Ongoing Process
FIDE emphasised that the process of forming the administrative team is still ongoing. The federation is building a team that draws on the experience of current staff and the expertise of professionals joining the organisation. The new structure offers opportunities for internal career development and creates room for new contributors to the federation’s work.
FIDE welcomed expressions of interest from qualified professionals who would like to join the organisation and take on other roles within its administration. A detailed overview of the departments and their areas of responsibility is outlined in the new organisational structure document.
Further announcements regarding the administrative team will follow in due course as additional appointments are confirmed.
