Yakubboev Clinches Green Hills Resort Masters 2026 Title Ahead of Abdusattorov
The Green Hills Resort Masters 2026, a combined rapid and blitz tournament, concluded on August 31 at the Green Hills Resort in the Bostanlyk district, roughly 75 kilometres from Tashkent. The two-day event, which began on August 30, featured a strong international field and produced a surprise winner in Nodirbek Yakubboev, who finished half a point ahead of fellow Uzbek star Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
With rapid games counting double, the opening day proved decisive. Yakubboev produced a commanding 6/7 score in the rapid section, which converted to 12 points and gave him a three-point cushion over the rest of the field heading into the blitz portion. The lead proved unassailable, even though Yakubboev slipped to sixth place in the blitz standings over the closing day.
Final Standings and Key Performances
- Winner: Nodirbek Yakubboev
- Runner-up: Nodirbek Abdusattorov
- Third place: Vladislav Artemiev
- Fourth place: Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus
Abdusattorov pushed Yakubboev all the way, even defeating him in their individual blitz encounter, but the deficit from the rapid day was too steep to overcome. Vladislav Artemiev secured the bronze medal, while young Turkish talent Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus rounded out the top four.
A Tough Outing for Mamedyarov
Former elite contender Shakhriyar Mamedyarov endured a disappointing weekend. The experienced campaigner finished last in the rapid section and managed only seventh in the blitz, leaving him at the bottom of the combined standings.
Format and Setting
The event followed an unusual scoring structure: one day of rapid play, where results counted double, followed by one day of blitz. Hosted at the Green Hills Resort in the Bostanlyk district, the tournament offered a compact but high-quality test for the invited field, with the rapid games carrying twice the weight of the blitz in determining the final outcome.
Notable Numbers
- Rapid score: 6/7 (Yakubboev)
- Converted rapid points: 12
- Margin of victory: 0.5 points
- Pre-blitz lead: 3 points
