Day One Results Set Stage for Competitive Sunday
The Global Chess League’s fourth season opened with a commanding performance from the American Gambits, who secured two victories on the opening day and accumulated 24 game points — more than any other team. The Gambits defeated the Alaskan Knights 14-5 and the Continental Kings 10-9, establishing early momentum in the league.
Other day one results included the Alpine Pipers defeating the Mumba Masters 10-8, and the Ganges Grandmasters edging out the Continental Kings 10-9. Three teams remain without match points following the opening round.
Carlsen vs. Nepomniachtchi Headlines Sunday Slate
Sunday’s schedule features a marquee matchup between Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi on board one when the American Gambits face the Ganges Grandmasters. Both players enter the match with identical records: three match points, 10 game points, and one win each from their respective teams’ opening matches.
Carlsen’s Gambits secured their victory over the Continental Kings with key performances including a draw against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and wins from Vidit Gujrathi and Humpy Koneru.
