Four Individual Golds and Three Team Titles at Commonwealth Schools Chess Championship 2026

Darshvi Rai, Amyra Arora and Mitul K H excelled at the Commonwealth Schools Chess Championship 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 6 to 11, 2026, winning four individual gold medals and helping India claim three team titles.

Four individual gold medals

The three players secured individual honours across age categories and playing formats during the nine-round international school championship.

  • Darshvi Rai won the Girls Under-9 individual gold medal in Blitz chess.
  • Amyra Arora captured the Girls Under-9 individual gold medal in Classical chess.
  • Mitul K H claimed two Open Under-17 individual gold medals, in Rapid and Blitz chess.

Mitul’s double success established him as the only one of the three players to win individual gold in two formats. Darshvi and Amyra also made major contributions to India’s results in the Girls Under-9 team competition.

Amyra Arora finishes unbeaten

Amyra’s Classical campaign was distinguished by consistency throughout the nine rounds. She scored eight points from nine games and remained unbeaten on her way to the individual title. Her performance was one of the championship’s standout individual achievements.

Her success in the individual event was matched by India’s team gold in Girls Under-9 Classical chess.

India leads the Girls Under-9 standings

India finished ahead of Sri Lanka and Malaysia to take the top position in the Girls Under-9 team competition. The country’s teams earned gold in all three formats: Classical, Rapid and Blitz.

Combined with the four individual titles won by Darshvi, Amyra and Mitul, the team results gave India a substantial gold-medal presence at the championship in Kuala Lumpur.

A broad range of achievements

The results covered multiple age groups, playing formats and both individual and team events. Darshvi shone in Blitz, Amyra dominated the Classical field with an unbeaten score, and Mitul demonstrated his strength in two Open Under-17 time controls.

India’s three Girls Under-9 team titles provided another measure of the delegation’s success, with the national team finishing ahead of Sri Lanka and Malaysia in the category.
