FIDE Extends Registration Deadline for World Junior U20 Championship in Caracas
Caracas, Venezuela — The FIDE World Junior U20 Championship will take place in Caracas from 17 to 28 November 2026, and world chess governing body FIDE, together with the Venezuelan Chess Federation and the Ministry of People’s Power for Sport, has extended the registration deadline from 16 October to 30 October 2026. The extension also applies to visa support requests and was agreed upon with the Venezuelan organizers.
Invitation Structure for National Federations
Each FIDE member federation may register up to two invited players for the championship, one per category. Federations wishing to send additional competitors may do so, though those extra players must be covered at the federation’s own expense. All registrations must be submitted through the respective national federation using the official registration form.
Who Qualifies for Personal Participation Rights
Beyond the standard federation allocations, FIDE Regulations grant personal participation rights to several groups of young players, who are also eligible to compete as invited participants:
- The top three finishers from the 2025 World Junior Championships
- Continental Junior Champions from the year preceding this edition
- The top six junior U20 players in the Open section and the top four in the Girls section of the FIDE Rating List as of 1 January 2026
- The World Youth Under-18 and Under-16 Champions from the year preceding this edition
Security and Welfare Measures in Caracas
The Organizing Committee, working closely with FIDE, has outlined a series of protocols designed to safeguard participants and visitors throughout their stay in the Venezuelan capital. Under the national security measures, organizers will coordinate with state security forces to establish a secure corridor, provide hotel security, and maintain continuous surveillance of the playing hall.
On the medical front, every accredited participant will receive comprehensive health and medical insurance covering the duration of the event. A primary medical care center and a 24-hour ambulance service will be stationed at the venue. Transportation arrangements will also be tightly controlled, with official vehicles reserved exclusively for airport-hotel-airport transfers and tournament-related activities.
