FIDE Extends Registration Deadline for World Junior U20 Championship 2026

Registration deadline pushed back

Caracas, Venezuela — The FIDE World Junior U20 Championship scheduled to take place from 17 to 28 November 2026 will accept registrations until 10 November 2026, the international governing body announced following an agreement with the Venezuelan organising committee.

The extension covers both standard entries and requests for visa support documentation, giving National Federations additional time to finalise their teams before the event.

Participation framework

Each FIDE Member Federation may enter a maximum of two invited players, one per category. Additional participants can be accommodated at their federation’s own expense. Players holding personal participation rights under FIDE Regulations remain eligible for invitation, including top finishers from the 2025 World Junior Championships, continental junior champions from the preceding year, top-rated junior U20 players on the January 2026 FIDE Rating List, and world youth under-18 and under-16 champions from the prior edition.

• All entries must be submitted through the respective National Federation using the official registration form.
• The registration deadline, including visa support requests, is now 10 November 2026.
• The tournament runs from 17 to 28 November in Caracas, Venezuela.

Security and welfare measures

The Organising Committee, in close coordination with FIDE, has reaffirmed its commitment to participant safety and outlined several protocols. National security forces will ensure a secure corridor around the venue, with hotel security and continuous surveillance of the playing hall. A comprehensive medical insurance plan covers every accredited participant for the duration of the event.

An on-site primary medical care centre and a 24-hour ambulance will be available at the venue. Official transport will be strictly controlled, limited to airport-hotel-airport transfers and tournament-related movements only.
