GothamChess to Host Total Chess Highlight Show at Budapest Pilot Event

Budapest Set for Total Chess Pilot

The Total Chess World Championship Tour pilot tournament is scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from November 10 to 20, 2026, at the Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel. The event will feature 24 leading players, including World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, competing across three formats: Blitz, Rapid, and Fast Classic.

Broadcast Team Announced

Organisers revealed the broadcast lineup on Tuesday, with International Master Levy Rozman, widely recognised as GothamChess, confirmed as host of the Total Chess Highlight Show. Rozman will present player interviews, guest discussions, analysis segments, and reviews of the tournament’s key moments throughout the event.

The commentary and coverage team also includes Anna Rudolf, Fiona Steil-Antoni, David Howell, and Jovanka Houska. Rudolf will provide behind-the-scenes reporting and player interviews from Budapest in addition to her broadcasting duties.

A Broader Vision for Chess

Kjell Madland, CEO of Norway Chess and founder of Total Chess, described the new broadcast format as an effort to attract wider audiences and build a global chess property. He emphasised that the project aims to combine world-class competition with compelling storytelling and fresh perspectives rather than focusing solely on determining the strongest player.

The Total Chess World Championship Tour, conceptualised by Norway Chess and sanctioned by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), is designed to identify the strongest all-round player across three time controls. The Budapest pilot will serve as a test of both the tournament format and broadcasting arrangements ahead of the inaugural global season planned for March 2027.
