FIDE Invites Delegates to Extraordinary General Assembly on December 27
Assembly to Address Outstanding Business
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has announced that its Extraordinary General Assembly will take place on December 27, 2026. The event will be conducted online, beginning at 14:30 Central European Time, according to the official invitation from FIDE President Timur Turlov.
Earlier in 2026, President Turlov publicly committed to convening another General Assembly before the year’s end, and this invitation fulfills that pledge. The primary purpose of the gathering is to provide member federations with an opportunity to address matters that remain unresolved following the General Assembly held in Samarkand earlier this year.
Who Is Invited
The invitation extends to a broad range of FIDE stakeholders, including:
- Delegates from member federations
- Representatives of Affiliated Organisations
- Honourable Dignitaries
- Members of the Zonal Council
- Commission Chairs
- The current FIDE World Champion
- The current Women’s World Champion
- Members of the Management and Advisory Boards
- Other FIDE officials
Agenda and Technical Details
The complete agenda and all supporting documents for the Assembly will be circulated by November 27, 2026. Access links and technical instructions for participation will be sent to invitees in advance of the event.
The Assembly is expected to complete the work initiated in Samarkand and enable FIDE to take necessary decisions to ensure the continued functioning and development of the sport globally.
Context
The previous General Assembly in Samarkand addressed several key issues on the FIDE calendar, but certain items were left for future deliberation. This Extraordinary General Assembly provides the dedicated forum to conclude those outstanding discussions.
