FIDE Allocates 2027 World Cup and Women’s World Cup Spots Based on Olympiad Results
Qualification Spots Confirmed for 2027 World Cups
FIDE has officially announced the allocation of qualification spots for the 2027 FIDE World Cup and Women’s World Cup, based on the results of the Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. A total of 83 national federations from the Open section and 45 federations from the Women’s section have secured places in the respective tournaments.
Continental Transfers Expand Regional Pathways
In accordance with FIDE regulations, continental federations were permitted to transfer a portion of their Olympiad-earned spots to upcoming continental events. Prior to the Olympiad, Europe, Africa, and the Americas opted to exercise this provision, reallocating 17 open and 5 women’s spots to regional competitions. This adjustment aims to strengthen continental-level events and provide broader qualification opportunities.
Final Standings and Team Allocations
The final list of qualified federations reflects the top-performing teams from the Olympiad. Uzbekistan, India, and Germany lead the Open section, while China, Kazakhstan, and India top the Women’s rankings. Each federation must now designate one player from its Olympiad team to represent it at the 2027 World Cup, subject to eligibility rules.
Next Steps for Qualified Federations
Federations that have earned a spot are required to confirm their representative player. Should all eligible team members already hold qualification through another pathway or decline participation, the spot may be subject to reassignment in line with FIDE regulations.
