FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess to Convene 2026 Meeting During Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan

Meeting Overview

The FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess will hold its 2026 Commission Meeting on 22 September during the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. The three-hour session, themed “Beyond the Board: Women, Innovation and the Business of Chess,” will bring together Commission members, invited speakers and members of the chess community to review the Commission’s work over the past year and explore new opportunities for women within the wider chess industry.

Programme and Focus Areas

A central part of this year’s programme will examine the growing opportunities available for women in chess beyond competitive play. The meeting aims to address the misconception that women cannot build profitable careers in chess and will highlight various pathways for professional development within the sport.

The agenda includes presentations covering the transition from competitive chess to entrepreneurship, the business of chess and investment opportunities, as well as women’s pathways and influence within the chess world. A dedicated session will explore careers and business opportunities created through digital content, streaming and personal branding.

The Commission will also report on ongoing projects including the Queens and Princesses Festival, Chess Mom, Chess for Protection, Chess Marathon and Chess4All initiatives. An update on the 2026 global survey and Women in Chess Index will be provided, continuing the Commission’s efforts to better understand the position of women in chess worldwide.

Session Structure

The meeting will open with a welcome from FIDE interim President GM Viswanathan Anand, followed by remarks from FIDE Management Acting Chair Dana Reizniece. The Commission will then present an overview of its recent work, impact and future priorities, including the Queens Gambit Challenge.

The programme will conclude with the WOM Commission Member Recognition Awards, Special Awards and the Queens Festival Winners Awards, followed by an open discussion allowing participants to share comments and engage directly with the Commission.

Participation

Members of the chess community are invited to join the meeting either in person or online through FIDE’s official YouTube channel. Those wishing to participate in person are encouraged to register in advance. The meeting is scheduled from 15:00 to 18:00 (UTC+5).
