Tech Mahindra Global Chess League Returns for Fourth Season in Bengaluru

The 2026 Tech Mahindra Global Chess League will commence on Saturday, September 5th, in Bengaluru, India, marking the beginning of the tournament’s fourth season. The league, which runs through September 13th, brings together some of the world’s top chess talent in a rapid format competition.

Tournament Format

The league features six teams competing across ten matches over the nine-day event. At the conclusion of the round-robin phase, the top two finishers will advance to compete for the championship title. Meanwhile, the teams placing third and fourth will face off in a separate match to determine third and fourth position overall.

Elite Player Lineup

Among the notable participants, world-renowned Magnus Carlsen leads the roster of star players. Joining him is Alireza Firouzja, known for his exceptional rapid and blitz abilities. Veteran grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, a former World Chess Champion, also features among the competitors, bringing decades of elite-level experience to the league.

Competition Details

All games will be played with a rapid time control of 20 minutes plus 2 seconds per move increment. This format demands both strategic precision and tactical sharpness from competitors, as players must complete their moves within the allocated time while maintaining competitive quality.
